One can say that the arrival of Internet technology signifies the dawn of a new era. Lives have changed as a result and we have certainly reached limits once could never have imagined attaining. Along with this Internet phenomenon comes the newest and presently most unique way of conducting trade – the online auction.

From simply banging on a gavel after saying “Going once, going twice…SOLD!” and turning over the said merchandise the winning bidder, online auctions have caused people to rush home, flip open their wifi-enabled PDA or scan the metropolis for a free wireless signal and log on to their online accounts in the hopes of achieving winning statuses on their online bids. As an auctioneer, you might want to capitalize on this demand by following these four new steps to make sure that the best potential buyer gets first dibs on your items.

1. Auction off items that are in demand or easy saleable. If your product is not useful or does not satisfy the capricious whims of the market, it might not move at all and you risk losing profit for all the effort you invested in putting it up for bidding.

2. When you post your auction, do so on days when it will be viewed by a greater number of prospective bidders. These are usually during the weekend, or Friday. Good auction days also include a day or two before payday, so bidders can scan and plan their budget based on the item they wish to get once they receive their salary.

3. Be diligent in following up on your sales. Remember – you should always stay online as often as you can to check on your items! Calendar the days when your auctions end and be sure to log on a day or two before this. Who knows, someone might have clicked on the Buy Now option and you wouldn’t have to wait out the entire duration of the bidding to make a sale.

4. Try to auction as many products as you can, so people will keep coming back to your store and go over newer items. Sellers who have items stand-in as dust gatherers often fade away in the minds of buyers who are always looking for the freshest and up-to-the-minute items that are auctioned off.
